Good localtime!
Some quick updates on bridging systems (systems that build mutual understanding and trust across divides).
- The Prosocial Ranking Challenge has been announced by the Center for Human-Compatible AI at UC Berkeley — propose a sufficiently promising algorithm for bridging-based ranking and they’ll spend $50k to test it with 1500 people on Facebook, X, and Reddit over a 4 month period (!). Details here.
- Google Jigsaw are in the process of hiring a Research Scientist or Software Engineer focused on bridging (!). Job description here.
- German foundation Bertelsmann Stiftung have published an excellent visual explainer of bridging-based ranking. Includes a side-by-side comparison of bridging-based ranking with engagement-based ranking that does a great job of conveying how much less divisive it could be. Take a look here.
